About Retire on Property
This site is about retiring early, about escaping the rat race, about making the most of life and using property to do so. Retire on Property was started in 2008 and aims to become one of the most influential independent websites with straight forward advice on achieving financial freedom through investing in property. The site is primarily geared to those who invest in Australian property, but the same principles apply if you invest in property in the US, the UK, Europe or elsewhere.
One hundred years ago there was no such thing as retirement, let alone early retirement. You worked until you died, end of story.
One of the great advancements of our age is that as citizens of the developed world we have come to expect that all of us will live out our golden years without having to work for a paycheck.
If only. The cold hard figures show a different story and most people will never achieve the retirement they dream of: one in four Americans will have to work until they die – just to put food on the table.
So much for the American Dream. As for the land of plenty down under, the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that 97% of Australian’s at the age of 65 are going to end up retiring with no substantial savings and living off the state pension – which will be far from comfortable.
But look, it doesn’t have to be like that. Rather than worry about how things will be in retirement, start planning now. Like anything else in life, a little planning can go a long way in helping you get where you want to be.
Remember, most people don’t plan to fail they simply fail to plan. And you do not need to earn an amazing income to achieve financial independence, no need to spend less than you earn and ensure you allocate your spending correctly.

With this website I hope to help you along the way by sharing what I have learned on my own journey to early retirement. Over time I will populate the site with summaries of everything I’ve learned, read, studied. I will include book reviews of all the books I read, I will list all the information sources I use, those that are free and those I pay for. Eventually we’ll introduce spreadsheet templates, calculators and maybe even share our research and our portfolio.
I’m sure you’ll agree that the site is not as slick as many of the big name, big money sites, but then again that’s not why I’ve launched the site. If you want pretty graphics, pictures and gimmicks look elsewhere. If you want down to earth information combined with personal experiences from an average investor intending to stop being a wage slave as soon as possible then you’ve come to the right place.
For now, browse around, enjoy what we have on offer so far and let me know what you like, what you can’t be bothered with, what annoys you and what you feel is missing.
And good luck with your journey!
